Silence by Sarah Wissmann

We are the silence that no one hears

But we scream a million untold stories

Louder than any voice

We are the ones who can make a change

Yet no one can hear us.

Nobody is listening

Our names will never be the ones in books

When we die, we will be nothing

Not even memory

Laws, legislatures, charters

Just words on fancy paper

Days go by and our stories continue

Like a black nightmare with no end

And no beginning

We greet each sunrise with tired eyes

We are the silence that should be heard.
