Top 10 TV Series

By Tiffany

This list you are about to read is the list of TV series that I’ve fallen in love with throughout the past 4 years of my life. They are in order from the oldest to the most recent. I’ll be starting off with one of the classics, Pretty Little Liars. And don’t worry, there aren’t any spoilers for any of these shows.

Pretty Little Liars

If you haven’t watched this show yet, you are missing out. This is a classic show that every girl (or boy) should fall in love with. With the main characters casted as many of today’s well known celebrities: Shay Mitchell (Emily Fields), Ashley Benson (Hannah Marin), Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale) and Spencer Hastings (Troian Bellisario), this show is filled with suspense and a little bit of horror. The mystery is all about finding out who “A” is: a stalker who won’t leave these 4 girls alone. The friends go through many horrible experiences before finding “A” in the last season. I began watching this show four years ago and I’m still obsessed with it and keep updated with the episodes.

The Walking Dead

This show is another one of my favourites that I’ve gotten many of my friends to enjoy. I’ve probably watched the first and second episodes five times by now. This is the typical zombie apocalypse, but the effects and acting are amazing. There aren’t very many zombie shows out there that are this good. I would consider The Walking Dead a horror, thriller, and partly mystery show. But to be completely honest, because there are many many seasons of this series, I got a little bit bored in the middle of it. It seemed so repetitive because there would be one problem after another. However, I will and did keep watching it. I will still conclude that this is a very good show.

Vampire Diaries

I began watching this show just a few years ago. After the first year of watching it, I made it to season 5. However, I honestly got really bored because I felt as if it was really predictive and didn’t keep the suspense going. A last summer I met a few friends and one of them told me to continue watching it. She said season 7 was the best. So when I was back at home, I began watching season 7. Every single episode had me in tears, and as cheesy as it sounds, the way the writers plotted the story and created the characters made me feel so connected to them. It made me want to keep watching episode after episode. I would absolutely recommend watching this show, if you are thinking about it.

Gossip Girl

Now, this show has got me super connected to each of the characters. I am so sad that it ended at the point that it did, because it made me want more. The 4 main characters live in Manhattan’s elite, and evolve from high school to university, and eventually become adults. The main point of the story is to find out who Gossip Girl is. Gossip Girl is basically a stalker who receives pictures of these super popular people which she then exposes on her site called Gossip Girl. The genres would include romance, 100% drama, and mystery.

The 100

This show is undeniably different from many of the classics on Netflix because it is more about survival in the futuristic world. I won’t give out the full plot here because there are such things as trailers and plot summaries that you can look at. But to mention my opinions on this show, every episode is exciting and definitely an attention grabber. With 3 and a half seasons available at the moment, I have watched all of them. I believe that the middle of the show is a little bit boring because I could tell that the main characters would never die. Some of the deaths were very shocking, but generally, it was slightly repetitive. I still keep up with the weekly episodes which are really interesting, though. This is a show that you really need to pay attention to because it is slightly confusing at times. The genres for The 100 would be science fiction, drama, and action.

American Horror Story

This series is undoubtedly the scariest and most “on the edge” show I’ve ever watched, as you can clearly tell from the title. Every season is a different horror story. The main actors shown in the introduction are always playing a different role in every season. However, they do switch out the side actors and some of them are in some seasons and not in others. I have only watched up to the 3rd season and 2 episodes of the 4th season so I cannot say this for the entire show, but it is very interesting and never repetitive. Every season is very unique and different from one another. I bet you could already guess the genres for this show: horror, thriller, and most clearly, fiction.

Bates Motel

This one is another horror show about a mother and son wanting a fresh start. They start up a motel in their new town. Many horrific and scary things happen in the hotel with other things also happening outside of the motel as well. The entire show is a mystery, horror and thriller. I definitely would recommend it.

Gilmore Girls

I began watching this last year after my trip to Universal Studios where they showed a tour of the show’s set. Previously, I had heard lots of good things about it, so I decided I would watch it. It caught my attention from the beginning and I watched all the seasons in the span of a few months. When the very last season came about just a year ago, it ended with an ending that could’ve kept going for a while, but the producers and writers have confirmed that it was the very last episode of the show. This is a comedy, drama, and romantic show, which you should totally watch.

This is the new drama currently playing weekly which seems just like a combination of Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars. The characters are going after Jason who perfectly represents “A” in Pretty Little Liars. Each episode really hooks the audience and ends with everyone wanting more. It’s a mystery, romantic, and teen drama.

How I Met Your Mother

I love this show so extremely much and I’ve never gotten bored of any of the episodes. This meant that I flew through the episodes within a few short months. Even though this show has 9 seasons, I still really wish that they would continue the show. Not to spoil it at all, but personally, I believe that the ending was horrible. There are so many things that could’ve gone better in the end but didn’t. Luckily, most of the show that’s leading up to the ending is amazing. I never usually laugh out loud when I’m watching shows or movies but this series was actually hilarious. If you see it on Netflix, the ratings are rated PG but I would say it’s TV-14 instead. This is just to warn anyone who is below that age to not watch it. Overall, I would say this is a comedy and drama series, and is by far, one of my favorites.

This concludes my top 10 TV series from 2013 to 2017. I hope this helped you to choose a show to watch.
